About Ulrieke
Ulrieke Benner is a contemporary textile designer, feltmaker, educator, and artist whose work bridges colour, natural fibres, and conscious living.
She creates one-of-a-kind felted wearable art and functional pieces designed to honour, adorn, and support life’s everyday moments and milestones. Each piece is intuitively created and infused with a deep respect for material, process, and the human experience.
Ulrieke’s work is rooted in a lifelong connection to colour, texture, and natural fibres. Wool and silk are central to her practice — chosen for their beauty, resilience, and their ability to support the body and living spaces in a natural, breathable way. Her felted creations are made to be lived with, to ground, warm, and gently uplift those who wear or surround themselves with them.
Often described as portals you wear, Ulrieke’s pieces invite presence, vitality, joy, and a reconnection to one’s own inner rhythm. They reflect a balance of modern elegance, rich textile traditions, and thoughtful functionality.
Alongside her wearable art collections, Ulrieke teaches feltmaking workshops that emphasize conscious making — slowing down, working in relationship with wool, and understanding fibre from its origin to its final form. She is currently developing a new line of home décor pieces using unprocessed, raw local wool as part of her ongoing commitment to material awareness and sustainability.
Ulrieke holds a Master of Education degree from Germany and a BFA in Textile e boutiques Design and Fibre Art from the United States. Her work is collected internationally and can be found in Canada, the United States, Japan, and Europe.
She works from her studio gallery in downtown Ganges on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, and through her online boutique.
My work is rooted in conscious making and conscious living.
This approach shapes not only what I create and teach, but how I live with materials every day.
Conscious making and conscious living through natural fibres.
Rooted in my own way of working and living, and shared through felted work and teaching.
Ulrieke’s wall art and décor pieces are designed for homes and public buildings. In these pieces, she combines painting, collage, stitching and appliqué on silk and felt.
Her work is exhibited in fine galleries and exclusive clothing boutiques.
